What’s New, What’s Coming, and how to navigate the Scoreboard

With Mr. Riherd’s retirement, the scoreboard underwent a complete redesign and now integrates fully with the KHSAA360 data management system used by member schools.

This post will keep a running list of updates, changes and other details as the scoreboard continues to evolve.

KNOWN ISSUES BEING ADDRESSED

  • Spacing on the main page with the extended logo does not work well on mobile.
  • Consideration underway to eliminate the top scroll on mobile due to legibility and CSS issues, or revising.
  • Date – Time spacing not consistent between sports

WHAT’S NEXT

  • A large part of the next steps lies with the membership. Once play starts at the varsity level on Monday, August 10, in soccer, and the week of August 10 for Field Hockey, Football and Girls’ Volleyball, games will be played, scores will be reported, stats can then be entered (and therefore displayed), etc.
  • The team compilation of the stats will be on each school’s ArbiterLive page as they are entered.
  • Statewide stats won’t be released until after week 4 of each sport’s regular season.
  • Stats will NOT appear until the game has been scheduled, a score recorded, and then the team reps have entered them (just as before).
  • RPI and rankings after week five of each sport’s regular season.
  • During fall season, additional work toward more robust mobile app, although the responsive design mobile version will continue to be improved.

Version 1.1 Release

  • When you use the menus to navigate, you can always click on the KHSAA logo to the left of the blue bar to reset to the main scoreboard page.
  • The top of the main page, and the top of each selected Sport page, is a running “ticker widget” or scores. This is user selectable and IS NOT dependent on the sport page you are on.
    • For example, you could be on the baseball page viewing statewide scores, and then have a score ticker scrolling across the page with the softball scores simply by adjusting the top left pull-down to your desired sport.
  • This version also integrated a series of Uber menus and links that will display in a blue bar near the top of the page.
    • The first section is Schedules/Scores by Sport. As the name implies, simply select the sport for which you want to see the schedules and scores.
      • The solid black bar represents yet another submenu of options, where the user can select additional options –
        • A date range
        • A League range (defined later), and
        • A specific school range.
      • Above that bar in the sports of Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Lacrosse **, Soccer, Tennis, Track and Field, Volleyball and Wrestling, you may also select the gender prior to going further into the menus.
      • Once you have finished viewing the one you have selected and want to do other choices in that sport or another, simply refresh your browser to reset the menu choices.
        • Each page defaults to showing all statewide scores for the default date range and all schools
        • You may then select a subset that might interest you. For example, you might want just Region 1 or Region 2 or any other region in a non-classified sport. Or you may want to select the 1A, 2A or 3A specific class in the sports of Football, Track or Cross Country.
        • You then may want to go up
      • Within each page, there are three submenus to tailor your selection.
      • This menu section and the relevant widgets will allow you to see the scores and indicators of other options. However, in version 1.1, to see specific schools, you will need to select the By School blue menu bar option.
      • Future versions of the By Sport pages will contain items such as statewide stats, statewide rankings and RPI and other items, but those remain in the final stages of development and are not needed until the regular season is significantly underway.
    • The second option in the blue menu bar is the “By School” option.
      • This is where you will find the comprehensive ArbiterLive pages, with rosters, schedules, scores, team and individual stats for those teams, and a great deal of other information.
      • Select the sport and level for that school and you will see:
      • Options for the team schedule, practice schedule (if provided by the school), roster (as provided by the school), coaches (as provided by the school), contest location, results, type of contest, links for ticketing and streaming (if provided by the schools), and once entered by the school, icons for stats and other information.
      • There are also options to follow that team, a printer icon for other information and an opportunity to select a prior year.
        • Please be mindful that importing prior year information is a large undertaking and will not be a priority given the retention of Mr. Riherd’s legacy scoreboard at another link.
    • The third blue bar option is “School Calendars“, a direct link to the Arbiter Calendar pages created by each school through KHSAA360.
    • The fourth bluebar option is “Legacy Scoreboard” which is a direct link to the Riherds/KHSAA Scoreboard data from the former scoreboard, which will be kept going by the good team at Riherds.com in Smith’s Grove, but which will NOT be further updated with additional information.
    • The fifth blue bar option is a direct link to the KHSAA.org site (and a corresponding link has been added to the KHSAA site back to the scoreboard for those avid users who go back and forth.
    • The last blue bar option is Help which will contain this document.
    • More coming!

Version 1.0 Release

  • Demonstrated the ability to display the statewide list of scores.
  • The scores are a direct import through the technology of ArbiterSports, to display these pages, requiring no further intervention.
  • The data is presented EXACTLY as entered by the member school; accuracy is critical and will be reiterated over and over with the schools.
