The KHSAA staff and Board of Control thank and salute long-time software engineer and developer Frank T. Riherd, who concluded his work with the KHSAA on the Riherds/KHSAA scoreboard on June 30th. Frank announced in January 2026 that he had recently received a diagnosis of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, and due to health issues, couldn’t continue publishing the Scoreboard after the end of the 2025-26 season.
Since Mr. Riherd told the KHSAA a couple of years ago that he wanted to begin adjusting his time commitment and focus primarily on the scoreboard, we have been very public in both our appreciation of his work and our recognition of the need for that product to continue. We deeply love Frank and the great things he has done for the KHSAA, its member school administrators and coaches, and a generation of students, and want that legacy project to continue long into the future. While this new scoreboard may not be identical and could take on a different look or feel, we would not be acting responsibly if we didn’t work to continue this great project, as we have publicly committed to do since his departure announcement. As Frank stepped aside on June 30 this year, we are forever indebted. The thousands of loyal users of his legacy work with the scoreboard, we are sure, will join in showing that appreciation.
The Association has long appreciated the contributions of the Riherd family, in particular Mr. Frank B. Riherd, his widow, Ora, his daughter, Lilly, and his son, Frank T., who labored daily in support of the KHSAA and its schools through the family sporting goods and subsequently trophy company, and Frank T’s outstanding work on our behalf.
